A Story About Her

A Story About Her

The day was perfect. No other words could describe it. It was one of those days people talked about when in times of sorrow, a day that some only see in there dreams. The kind of day that holds beauty even in the middle of a warzone. Nothing can destroy it, nothing can chase it away. And on this particular day, the war was finally over.

On this wonderous day a celebration was taking place in a small park in the middle of no where. Surrounded by green hills and thick forest it was the perfect sanctuary. And just a few feet away from the edge of the woods laid a large maroon blanket where two people played together. There was the man, well sort of a man. His phsyical appearance looked as though he were a slightly small but healthy boy maybe in his late teens. But he had that glow about him. Nothing you can point out or describe, but when you see it you know. It’s innocence can take away your breath and steals your attention faster than any danger.
Holding the boy was a woman. She also could steal a glance from anyone, but not for the same reasons as her counter part. Sure she was beautiful, stunning really. Long legs running up to her battle hardened body, her long black hair draped down over her shoulders. Her emerald eyes staring down at the boy almost as if she could see past his golden locks and into his mind..perhaps she could. But it wasnt the sex appeal that turned heads with her. She was an expert at blending in to the scene and most walked right past her, that was the way she liked it. She decided when people would see her and decided when those same people would falsely believe they were alone. What made her so irresistable to look at when she was in your sight was the horror behind the eyes, the scars her perfect skin had hid away. She carried a feeling of bad tidings with her wherever she went. If she had her sights on you it was like seeing a mushroom cloud over the horizon and waiting for the shockwave. Some people she likes, theyre the lucky ones. She’d never show her true colors to them, never again anyways. Beauty was her advantage. It countered her awful past and what she used to be.

The two of them laid in the shade created by a weeping willow in the little park. A light breeze blew past them carrying the scent of wild animals, flowers, and the scent of nearby food. The woman wrinkled her nose aggitated by the smell, she knew she could wait but she wasnt sure for how long. Her resolve was a lot stronger than it had once been but that didnt meant that there was no hunger at all. She felt her body press back against the willow as the boy slightly tossled in his mothers arms. Sleeping like a babe and it was only 1 oclock. “Perfect”, she thought as her hand supporting his back reached down to his poofy bottom patting it lightly to comfort him. “Just in time for your nap.” She whispered quietly. Her lips moved down to the top of his head planting a gentle kiss. Her head then fell back lightly against the trunk of the tree as her eyes closed and a smile found its way to her lips.

As the two of them enjoyed there summer day by napping another pair watched them from across a field of grass. Two mean in dark black bussiness suits watched the mother and child like hawks, there eyes constantly scanning back and forth from behind there sunglasses. They made no movement, no sound, no hint of even breathing. It was like two statues sitting on a park bench with nothing to do but watch. But that was there job, and theyd be damned if anything was going to happen on there watch. They would insure there safety even if it meant giving up there own lives. With today now being the first day of peace you would think they’d be somewhat relaxed, perhaps even in high spirits but the opposite was true. They saw this as a reason to be more cautious then ever before. This would be the time when nobody would expect it.

A slight buzzing noise began to ring out through the silence of the day. The man on the right side of the bench reached into his pocket pulling out a small hand held device pressing it to his face. Another mans voice could be heard crackily coming in through the speaker.

“This is RedOne coming in, can you hear me EagleThree?”

“Copy RedOne, whats your question?”

“EagleThree I’ve just heard word from Nordic that he’s spotted a long wolf like animal running on his edge of the area heading my direction. Permission to take action, sir?”

“Negative RedOne, the animal poses no threat.”

“But sir, what if it gets past me and goes for-“

“She’s of no concern soldier..she’s on our side.”

“Copy that sir.”

The other man on the bench reached over tapping his associates arm. EagleThree drew back his sleeve looking down at his watch. He looked at the other man shaking his head lightly. “Forty five more minutes Walker, then we go.”

Walker stared back at the East side of the tree line scanning for any intrusions. “I don’t understand why you dont atleast tell her to leave the perimeter, she’s a distraction,” Walker stated.

Eagle continued to stare down at the couple below the tree not even glancing at his partner. “You know the situation, without her Katie would’ve never agreed to this. Besides an extra pair of eyes never hurts.”

“I dont trust her. Not after what she did.” Walker kicked at a pebble at the tip of his boot in disgust.

“She’s been cleared, Thats enough for me.”

“Cleared? You call a pardon from that psycho down there being cleared. Thats a stamp of approval from the devil himself.”

Just then Eagle’s pocket began to buzz again.

“I told you Red we’re not changing our posts until- Oh I’m so sorry Katie. I thought you were-“.

“Nevermind that.” The womans voice was soft but stern. It had a casual way of taking charge that few could do. “You may want to remind your comrade that my hearing is still as good as it was during the war.” Walker turned his head towards the phone hearing her words, a tingle began to climb up his spine as he felt her gaze. He didnt need to look across the field to know that her green eyes were fixated on him.

“Will do Ma’m.” The man gave out a soft chuckle noticing his partners discomfort.

“And another thing Eagle, please stop calling me Katie. I know you mean well but I dont want anyone listening in to hear that. Stick to the codename.”

The man’s cheeks began to blush slightly as he looked over at her seeing a friendly smile on her face.”Copy that NightMother.”

Eagle looked down at his watch once again letting out a small sigh. He lightly patted his friend shoulder as he stood up stretching. “Come on Walker, we can do the shift change early. Let you recover from looking death in the face.” The man gave him a light nudge as his friend stood up and reached for his own mobile to inform Esto that he would be changing positions with him.

As the men walked off in there opposite directions the woman on the blanket lightly nudged her sleepy son until his eyes began to flutter open. His deep blue irises tiredly looked up at her.

“Hey there sleepy head, I think someones a tired baby today isn’t he?” Katie spoke to him like an angel talking to him someone they had just rescued. Always with love and compassion so he knew he was safe. The boy nodded tiredly and buried his face into her chest hiding from the sunlight wanting to be back in his dream world.

“Come on baby boy, remember what Mommy promised you today, hmm?” Her fingers lightly played with his long sandy blonde hair.

His head suddenly raised with curiousity, energy returning to his body. “Really Mama? Can we really?” His voice was filled with glee and excitement.

Katie traced her fingernail across her sons denim jeans moving up and down the back of his Scooby Doo shirt tracing a small pattern of comfort. “Yes baby, but we have to be quick. The guards just left. Think you can beat Mommy today?” She gave him a playful smile and ruffled his hair.

The boy looked back at his mother with confidence and determination nodding his head up and down quickly. “I know I can mommy.” His smile showed that he was sure of victory this time. His mother simply let out a small chcukle and stood up, she kept a hold of his hand leading him to stand on his own feet.

“Okay Darling.” Her face had an expression of mock arogance towards her son as she got into a fake running stance making him giggle. “On the count of three. One…Two………….. ” he shook with excitement anxious to begin. Just then she reached her hand down and patted his bottom distracting him. “THREE!” And they were off.

It was like watching two beams of light racing through the forests, wizzing and curving through the trees. The boy had fallen behind with his late start but he knew he was gaining on her, he could still smell her scent. He continued to press on through woods for a minute or two before he finally came to the tree. With one move of his body he was already high up in the tree standing on a wide branch balancing himself with one hand against the trunk. He peered through the forest searching straining his ears for any sign of her.

Katie felt happier then she ever had as she sat perched on the branch above him blending into the foliage. He may be growing up she thought but she was still his mommy and she would always win. She began to dangle her self from the limb as she hung behind him quietly. Her arms quickly reached out gripping him around his waist as she hoisted him up with her flipping him around hugging him close tickling his sides. “Mommy Wins!”

The boy began to shriek with laughter as the tickling stopped as his mother laid him down on the branch and began to blow raspberries on his tummy. “Mommy please!! You win! YouWin!” His voice rang out in harmony with the birds of the trees.

Katie sat back smiling down at her son lying there in front of him. She never thought she’d be alive to see this day. Another blessing she counted.

Her hand reached down to the waistline of his jeans going inside the front of them. Her fingers danced across the inside of his thighs until they reached the boys swelling diaper. She poked her way inside checking him.

“Mmm I thought I felt a saggy bottom earlier.” She gave him a slight wink as she reached behind her into the diaper bag she had grabbed before she had sprinted off. Out came a disposable diaper with prints across the front of it accompanied by a container of lotion and powder. “Didnt see mommy grab this did you?”

The boy blushed to shy to look her in the eyes as he felt her remove his pants and begin untaping his wet diaper.

“Oh come on honey, it’s only Mommy here. You dont have to be embarrased Love.” She tried to comfort him as her hands quickly removed the soiled garment and placed it into a plastic sack nside of the diaper bag.

“Do I have to Mommy?” The boy pleaded weakly already knowing the answer.

“Honey you know the answer to that, of course you have too.” She lifted his bottom placing it back down onto the thick padding. “Jack I know you used to be a big boy, but your mommies baby now and theres nothing wrong with that. I thought you liked being mommies baby?” One of her dark black eyebrows arched itself as she looked down at her son.

“I do Mommy!” He blurted out before he could stop himself. “I do a lot but I just sometimes think that maybe a should be a big boy, ya know? For you mommy..it’d be easier wouldn’t it?” He looked away from her again.

Her eyebrow lowered itself and her face took on a look of understanding and love. She reached back to his diaper bag and pulled out a pacifier bringing it to his lips. “Open up baby.” She teased his lips with the nipple before he finally took it sucking on it anxiously unable to help himself. She felt that same warmth once more seeing his eyes begin to space out as he relaxed.

“Baby listen to Mommy. I love you and nothing is going to change that. Your a baby. Big boys dont have accidents, and big boys dont have mommies that change there diapers. And mommy loves taking care of her baby boy and that will never change.” She dropped her gaze a bit as she went back to diapering him. “I’ve been through to much with you to ever let my baby leave me again.”

Upon hearing these words his whole body began to relax as she pulled the diaper up between his legs and taped it up snuggly. “And besides,” she leaned over him kissing his forhead as her hand patted his diapered crotch, “your butt looks adorable in diapers.” She gave him another wink before picking him up and placing him in her lap as she leaned back against the trunk of the tree resting and closing her eyes.

He sat against her entertaining himself by sucking on his binky and playing with the long strands of her hair. “Dont fall asleep Mommy, I want you to tell me a story.”

She smiled hearing his words but did not open her eyes. “And what story is that sweety?”

His voice got really quite when he spoke. “THE Story Mommy.”

She gave a gentle sigh resting her chin ontop of his head. “Your to young baby boy. Maybe someday.”

“But Ma-“.

“No buts Jack.” She spoke with authority but never let her tone slip into a hurtful tone. She didn’t think it was possible for her to ever be mad at him anyway. “I’ll tell you a different story okay, how about the one with the princess that gets kidnapped by the big ape?”

Jack quickly lost interest in the previous topic and gave a quick nod of approval to his mother. “Okay Mommy.”

As Katie began to recite the story of Mario and the Princess to jack she stared off into the nothingness of the woods feeling his body press against hers. She tightened her hold on him to make sure he wouldn’t fall out when he fell asleep which she knew would be soon.

As the sun began to set on them she found herself growing tired. She had stopped telling the story an hour ago when Jack began to let out quite coos signaling that he was fast asleep. She looked down at him lost in his beauty, she never understood how something this beautiful belonged to her. She didn’t deserve it. She didn’t deserve anything.

The hunger began to eat at her once more as she looked back to the open wild. It was starting to get dark now, her favorite time. She once ruled this kingdom of fear and confusion. She was a queen in a world of demons and she was the worst of them all. But not anymore. Now she was the one scared of the demons, not out of fear for her own safety but for the life of her child. She pulled the edges of her leather duster up cocooning it around him.

She heard a noise to her right. Another was close by and they were making attempts at moving quietly towards the tree. Not on the ground though but up in the branches of the other tall oaks. Katie reached into her pocked pulling out a small square box with a red top. She popped the lid and brought the container to her mouth using her lips to remove a cigarette. She replaced the box with a zippo flicking it open and sparking her smoke. Her muscles began to feel loose again as she pulled in a drag. She stared straight ahead not bothering to look at the approaching threat.

“Smoke?” She reached her hand up handing the pack to a woman sitting on a branch above them.

“No thanks, trying to quit. Makes my fur smell bad.” The woman said in a low whisper not wanting to wake the child.

“Dont worry, he’s out like a light. He’s always been a heavy sleeper.” Katie played with his hair while staring into the blackness of the oncoming night. “Thanks for coming out here, he just wanted a night back in this tree.”

The other woman nodded and sat back against the trunk as well. “It’s no trouble, I can never sleep anyways. You should get some rest though. I’ll watch out for you two for the night. You dont look like you’ve slept for days Kate.”

It was true, even with all her beauty katie couldn’t hide all the damage. Memories have a way of leaving different scars.

“It’s her again isn’t it?”

Katie just nodded and continued to puff on her cigarette. “He asked about her tonight. He wanted to hear the story. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Not yet.”

“It’s alright, He’ll forget about it eventually. He may not forget her but he’ll start remembering all the things that happened and will figure out whats important. Now get some sleep Katie. Your safe.”

Katie chuckled softly before closing her eyes again and flicking the burning ember out into the night. Safe. In the real world she was, but not inside her head. In there she had to remember everything. She began to brace herself for the coming dreams and the flashbacks to horrors long gone. Of a war finally over, a story coming to its end. It wasn’t just a story, it was her story. The story of how she got to this point in her life. The story of how she had fallen. The story of her redemption. And most importantly, it was the story of how she had lost Her.

The End of A Story About Her.
